Aroona & Ecotourism

Aroona is proud to be part of the important work to understand and protect the magnificent ecosystems we visit.  We strive to provide the best in ecologically sensitive expeditions by providing education to our guests, using resources wisely, collaborating with researchers and involving indigenous communities.

The vessel serves as a mobile research platform, enabling scientists to conduct detailed studies in remote areas. Its design supports scientific teams while minimising environmental disruption, effectively connecting research, conservation, and responsible marine exploration.  Aroona’s research portfolio is extensive and varied. Projects have included the Great Reef Census, Minke whale studies, shark research, coral spawning investigations, seagrass surveys, and seafloor mapping. Each of these efforts generates crucial data about marine ecosystems and their dynamic changes.
Aroona also respects the deep, long-standing connection indigenous communities have with these marine environments – we collaborate with traditional owners such as the Gunggandji-Mandingalbay Yidinji Indigenous Land Sea Rangers and have a profound respect for the indigenous knowledge.

Looking forward, Aroona is excited to continue engaging in practical, collaborative approaches that prioritise ecological understanding and respect for marine environments.   For travellers seeking more than just a vacation, Aroona offers a chance to be part of something larger. Whether you’re diving alongside marine researchers, learning about whale behavior, or witnessing coral restoration efforts, a journey with Aroona is an opportunity to connect deeply with the marine world and contribute to its preservation. We hope you can join us!
